WS Raynar UK Smaller Companies

Introduction to the fund

Managed by Philip Rodrigs, this UK smaller companies fund holds between 70 and 90 stocks. Philip’s bottom-up approach aims to balance high conviction with diversification in this under-researched market. He favours firms with strong management teams and clear growth catalysts that are priced at attractive valuations. Prior to founding the firm, Philip had considerable success managing UK smaller companies funds at Investec and R&M.

Philip founded Raynar Portfolio Management in 2019. He started his career at Invesco, after graduating from the University of Oxford with a degree in Economics & Management. He then worked as an analyst at T. Rowe Price before moving on to Investec, where he was the manager of their UK Smaller Companies and UK Blue Chip funds.

Opinion on fund

Fund manager Philip Rodrigs is one of the most successful UK Smaller Companies managers of the past two decades. He delivered the strongest risk-adjusted returns between 2006 and 2017 and, having met him on numerous occasions, it’s not hard to see why. If UK small-caps were to have their day in the sun again, we believe he would be very well placed to provide healthy returns for investors.
